Frenum is the term for the stringlike attachment of your upper or lower lip or tongue to your gum line. In some instances, a frenum attachment causes a recession of the gums, an opening of spaces between the incisor teeth, or even restricted tongue movement. Repositioning the frenum to its proper location involves a minor procedure called a Frenectomy. Using local anesthesia, most patients experience minimal discomfort following this procedure that usually takes less than 30 minutes and can often be done with a laser for faster healing and improved results.
