When is Gum Grafting Necessary?

Recent research has shown that the critical amount of gingival (gum) recession is 3 mm, which is slightly more than 1/8 inch. Recession of 3 mm or more is almost certain to increase and should be intercepted with a gingival graft before it worsens.
